Umatilla County Jail Roster

The Umatilla County Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently held in the local jail in the state of Oregon. The site UmatillaCourt.us helps find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. In addition to online tools, information can be obtained through the official website of the Umatilla County Sheriff's Correctional Division, in person at the jail reception, or by phone. A search in the roster allows you to find out the detention status of a person, the charges brought, and the admission date. The roster is maintained by the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division and is posted on the county's website; data is updated regularly.

Search Current Inmates in Umatilla Jail

There are several ways to find out if a specific person is in custody at the Umatilla County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Go to UmatillaCourt.us to find publicly available information about court cases and records related to inmates.
  2. Visit the Sheriff's Correctional Division page — it contains a link to the inmate roster. The list is usually displayed in a table format that can be browsed or searched using the browser's search function (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F).
  3. Prepare the person's full legal name for the search. If the booking number is known, it will speed up the search.

By Phone

Call the jail and inquire if a specific person is held. The operator can confirm the presence of an inmate by name or booking number.

In Person

Visit the jail reception during business hours. Contact the on-duty staff to check the detention status.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster. To obtain sheriff's records, you can also submit an official public records request.

Find Umatilla Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the jail. This is not the same as a court case — it is an internal document of the correctional facility.

During the booking procedure, the following is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges brought
  • Arresting agency (city police, state patrol, sheriff, etc.)
  • Personal data of the detainee — name, date of birth, physical description

The average annual intake and release volume at the county jail is about 4,383 people, so records are generated daily in significant numbers.

Access to booking records can be obtained in several ways:

  1. Through the online roster — if the person is currently in custody, basic booking data is visible in the inmate list on the sheriff's website.
  2. Public records request — to obtain a full copy of the record, submit a request through the county public records request page. Requests to the sheriff or jail are processed in accordance with Oregon Public Records Law.
  3. Court records — if the case has gone to court, relevant information can be found through the Oregon eCourt (OECI) system or on the Umatilla County Circuit Court records page.

If the person has already been transferred to the state correctional system, use the Oregon Offender Search by the Oregon Department of Corrections.

Search the Umatilla Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The inmate roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in Latin as it appears in official documents. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one letter error can result in no results.
  • If the last name is complex or has multiple spelling variations (e.g., hyphenated), try a shortened version.
  • Adding the first name narrows the results, but if you're unsure of the correct spelling of the first name, search by last name only.
  • On the roster page, where the list is fully displayed, press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) and enter the last name — the browser will highlight matches.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is a unique identifier assigned at admission. This method is the most accurate and provides one specific result. The number is usually communicated to relatives during the inmate's first call or noted in arrest documents.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a name in the roster does not always mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  • The person has not yet been processed — there is a time gap between physical delivery and the appearance of the record in the system.
  • The person has already been released on bail or by court decision.
  • The name is recorded differently than expected (alias, maiden name, input error).

In such a case, call the jail directly at 541-966-3600 to clarify the status.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Umatilla

The roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. Between the time of physical admission of the detainee and their appearance in the online list, several minutes to several hours may pass — depending on staff workload and time of day.

Main limitations to consider:

  • Publication delay. If the arrest occurred recently, the record may not yet appear.
  • Disappearance after release. The roster only displays those currently in custody. After release or transfer, the name disappears from the list.
  • Not an archive. The online roster does not store the history of all previous bookings. To obtain archival data, a separate request must be submitted to the sheriff's records department.
  • Input errors. Sometimes data is entered with inaccuracies in names or dates — this can complicate the search.

To check a criminal history at the state level, there is a separate procedure through the Oregon State Police CJIS division, which is the central repository of criminal records according to ORS 181A.220. This check covers a much broader scope of information than the local jail roster and may require payment and applicant identification.
